Our Growth

What makes this vineyard extraordinary?  To begin, the land on which it is seated is at once grand and historical, having housed the medieval nobility of Cortona.  With the passing of centuries, the estate evolved into a working farm, until it was purchased in 1967 by the d’Alessandro family of Rome with the express interest of founding a winery.  It wasn’t until 1988, when Massimo d’Alessandro, son of the original owner, in collaboration with Attilio Scienza, from the University of Milan, sowed an experimental five hectares of the Syrah grape variety, beginning a transformation away from what was once a municipality recognized for its production of blending wines.  Success arrived as a consequence of the dry climate – with its ample sunlight and scarcity of rain – and the peculiar, yet highly suitable, terrain.   Having yielded exceptional results, supplementary vines have been planted over the years, ultimately producing an internationally recognized label of 100% Syrah.   Local producers have since followed suit, procuring nearby land in order to plant Syrah, and, with Tenimenti d’Alessandro leading the pursuit, D.O.C. recognition for Cortona wine has been obtained.

Indeed, further enhancement and development of the fine wines at Tenimenti d’Alessandro is well ensured, since the grapes can only improve with time.  Furthermore, Massimo d’Alessandro continues to work with renowned wine consultants in order to fine-tune his winemaking prowess and explore supplementary prospects.  As such, acquiring a portion of this mark of history and excellence at Borgo Syrah goes beyond the logical, for you are not only gaining an asset, in addition to a fraction of such a world-class vineyard, but with the acquisition of a residence on this splendid estate, you are cultivating a lifestyle.
